About Me
Tone Butta, a visual artist hailing from PG County, MD, originally from Queens, NY, embarked on his artistic journey as a self-taught talent in 2016. His early endeavours involved restoring and customising sneakers, a passion that allowed him to immerse himself in a world of colours and themes deeply rooted in sneaker culture. Over the years, Tone has meticulously crafted over 175 pairs of sneakers and shoes, catering to a diverse clientele.
Through his experience in sneaker customization, Tone transitioned into a contemporary artist across multiple mediums and consistently pushes the boundaries of colour and creativity. In his latest works, he has skillfully captured his personality and profound love for vibrant hues.
Growing up in Cambria Heights Queens, NY I’ve always felt the pulse of its streets, the quiet hum of alleyways, and the energy crackling through every corner. My art comes from that noise, from the clash of cultures, the rawness of city life, and the stories often overlooked in the shadows and side streets. My goal is to capture these fragments of urban life, the lives of people who, like me, were raised on concrete and sound.
As Tone Butta my work isn’t about perfection; it’s about connection. Through my art, I want to create moments that feel lived in, raw, and authentic, like worn graffiti tags on a wall or tags on the side of a NYC box truck. I paint the realities of a city kid’s life, finding beauty in the resilience and complexity of my community, always searching for a balance between bold expression and underlying sensitivity.
From the friendships formed in my neighborhood in Queens to the lessons learned on crowded blocks of Time Square , these are experiences that can only come from living in the heart of NEW YORK CITY. My art is a reflection of these moments, meant to connect with anyone who has felt the impact of a city that never sleeps.
